Australian head coach Ufuk Talay: Born in Sydney in 1976, Ufuk Talay is a Turkish-Australian coach and former midfielder who built his playing career across Australia, Türkiye, France and Japan. After moving into coaching, he worked in youth development and national-team structures before becoming head coach of Australia U20, Wellington Phoenix and Sydney FC. About the Coach

Australian coach Ufuk Talay was born on 26 March 1976 in Sydney, Australia. A former midfielder, Talay developed a long playing career in Australia and overseas, representing clubs including Marconi Stallions, Galatasaray, Antalyaspor, Karabükspor, Bursaspor, Nîmes, Gaziantepspor, Mersin İdmanyurdu, Sydney FC, Avispa Fukuoka, North Queensland Fury and Sydney United. He also represented Australia at Under-20 level.

Talay moved into coaching after ending his playing career and began working with Sydney United before joining the Australian Institute of Sport. He subsequently worked within the Australian national-team structure as an assistant coach with the U17 side before becoming head coach of Australia U20 in 2016. He later joined Sydney FC as an assistant coach under Steve Corica.

In July 2019, Talay became head coach of Wellington Phoenix. During his first season, he guided the club to third place in the A-League, the best finish in Wellington Phoenix history at the time, and was recognised as the PFA A-League Coach of the Season. Across four seasons, he led Wellington to finals football three times and became the club's most successful head coach.

Talay returned to Sydney FC as head coach in November 2023. He remained in charge until 24 March 2026, recording 91 matches with an average of 1.60 points per match according to Transfermarkt. On 1 July 2026, he took over as head coach of Western Sydney Wanderers on a contract running until 30 June 2028.

Talay holds a UEFA Pro coaching licence and is associated with a 4-2-3-1 formation. He holds Australian citizenship and is also recorded by Transfermarkt as having Türkiye citizenship. His coaching career combines Australian national-team development, A-League experience and international playing experience in Türkiye, France and Japan.
